Research revealed the days of dog owners setting off on their early morning stroll with Rex, Sandy or Blackie are long gone.

Now the tranquillity of Britain's parks and fields is more likely to be shattered by a pet lover barking out orders to Max, Roxy or Millie, according to a piece in today's Daily Telegraph.
